The reformed SBRI is a procurement programme - Government Departments buy research and development services, helping to bring new technologies to market and leading to the possibility of future commercial procurement in the public sector. Developments will be 100% funded and will be targeted at specific identified needs in each Department, increasing the chance of exploitation. Suppliers for each project will be selected by an open competition process and retain the IPR generated from the project, with certain rights of use retained by the contracting Department.

This area is a hot topic, for example because of the regulatory compliance requirements organisations face when adopting more manageable IT architectures such as SOA. The study is part of the "SOA Security Concerns Analysis" project carried out within the Cyber Security Knowledge Transfer Network (www.cybersecurity-ktn.com), a UK government backed organisation concerned with cyber security. The project is led by ObjectSecurity (www.objectsecurity.com), a security specialist that offers OpenPMF 2.0 an innovative security management solution applicable to SOA. If your organisation is an end-user of IT and has any views on SOA, please take a brief 5 minute survey at:

The university and company recruit a suitable eligible candidate. Projects must be in the engineering or physical sciences and are jointly supervised by the academic and industrial partners. Funding for around forty x 3.5 year PhD studentships is available this year.

In 2010/2011 EPSRC requires sponsoring companies to contribute a minimum of £22,000 (total) over three years which is just one third of the overall costs..

This year, EPSRC are holding a limited competition, and will only consider applications from companies wishing to establish a new collaboration.

Note that Digital Systems KTN will be holding its own CASE competition, and details for that competition will be made available directly from the KTN.

Closing date: 4.00 pm, Wednesday April 7 2010
